The article is devoted to the original contribution to “The Face of Battle” methodology - Prof. Philip Sabin’s mathematical model of ancient battle published in his monograph “Lost Battles”. The model is intended to reinforce Sabin’s viewpoint on the “mechanics” of the ancient battle and to provide quite convincing reconstruction of the battle when the primary sources are often insufficient or contradictory. The main element of his model concerns testing variously the psychological state of the soldiers at different stages of the battle. Being based on the available source data, it nevertheless allows “alternative” scenarios and can be used as board wargame.References
