The Franco-Russian alliance in the pages of satirical and humorous magazines of the late 19th - early 20th centuries

The article examines the features of coverage of diplomatic meetings of Emperor Nicholas II with the French presidents of the Third French Republic (F. Faure and E. Loubet) on the pages of French satirical and humorous publications. The main attention is paid to the analysis of thematic issues of the popular magazines «Le Rire» and «L’Assiette au beurre». Based on humorous and satirical drawings, the development of friendly relations between Russia and France, their transformation on the eve of the First World War is demonstrated. The author focuses on the figure of Nicholas II and the evolution of his image on the pages of the French satirical and humorous press of the late 19th - early 20th centuries. Based on the work done, it is concluded that French magazines paid great attention to the interaction of the two powers and formed the image of Russia, thereby influencing public opinion.References
