The article is devoted to the problem of the origin of Pan-Africanism. The author focuses on the "American center" of the formation of its ideological and practical foundations. Special attention is paid to the early stage of the development of the current, the emergence of "proto-Pan-Africanism"(from the second half of the 18th century till the end of the 19th century). After analyzing the initiatives of the pioneers of the "Back to Africa" movement, the first American abolitionists and civil rights activists, the author concludes that their actions served to create the environment for generating the theory and practice of Pan-Africanism.References
