Abstract

The article dwells on the mechanisms of creation of antonomastic units and literary nonce-words in J. R. R. Tolkien's work resorting to his fantasy «The Lord of the Rings». The authors are showing that the effectiveness of these mechanisms can be explained by the fact that J. R. R. Tolkien, being a professional linguist and polyglot, made use of authentic language mechanisms of word derivation and word composition as well as his profound knowledge of language theory and linguistic history.
