Problems of studying abstract names in foreign linguistics

Abstract

The object of the research is the works of foreign linguists devoted to abstract nouns. The aim of the study is a systematic description of aspects of the study of abstract names in foreign linguistics. The appeal to foreign scientific works is dictated by the necessity to identify universal features of abstract nouns as well as syntactic constructions with names in different languages. The work used general scientific methods of description, comparison, specific scientific methods of linguistic description, argumentation when comparing the points of view of researchers. The criteria for distinguishing names denoting feelings and relations, proposed by scientists, are considered. The importance of syntagmatics in the semantic interpreta of abstract names is demonstrated. A multi-aspect description of the combinatorial properties of nouns according to certain parameters allows us to identify the universal not only at the lexical but also at the syntactic level.The aspectual features of abstract nouns are described. A description of state names based on a unified metalanguage is presented. A conclision about the commonality of semantic and syntagmatic properties of abstract naves in different languages, which determine equivalence relations in the sphere of analytical constructions is made. The semantic and grammatical similarity of names in non-closely related languages indicates the commonality of the symbolic designation of concepts in the human mind.
