Abstract

The article describes one of the "cultural signs" types - the type of sign that can be considered as a characteristic of orientation in the environment. These signs are one of the basic elements of any literary text created in a certain language and belonging to a certain culture. "Material space" of writing is organized using these signs for three main purposes: 1) reconstruction of reality; 2) recreation of reality; 3) creation of reality. For recipient these texts may be regarded as "real", "quasi-texts", "virtual texts" and "latent texts". This is especially important for understanding of text by culture-bearer.
