Abstract

The article presents a theoretical and practical analysis of civic activism. The current forms of civic activity in the field of environmental protection in modern Russia are considered. It was concluded that the concept of «environmental protest» is at the intersection of such terms as «protest» and «environmental movement». Focusing on the opinion of researchers on these issues, the authors formulated their own concept of "environmental protest." The state and dynamics of environmental protests in modern Russia are presented. Four major Russian environmental protests were analyzed: «Stop GOK» in the Chelyabinsk Region; Greenpeace Russia*, the Baltic Fund for Nature and Eco-Examination against the construction of the Russian section of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline across the Kurgalsky sanctuary (Kaliningrad region); The «Eco-defense!» And «Team-29» movements are against the opening of new coal mines and open-pit coal mining in the Kuzbass (Kemerovo region); Polygon «Yadrovo» in the Moscow region. The regional experience of conducting environmental protests is explored using the example of the Yaroslavl Region. Four major protests were studied and analyzed: the Solid Waste Solid landfill in Pereslavl Zalessky; development of the territory of the national park «Plescheevo Lake»; construction of the park area «Pavlovskaya Grove» and the importation of Moscow garbage into the territory of the Skokovo landfill.

*Greenpeace activity is considered undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation
